Now WordPress installation is easier with many of the top web host offering easy installation. Providers that use popular control panels such as cPanel, Plesk, vDeck and more are all able to easily integrate WordPress with their service. Even providers that run on their own custom control panels are offering the same exact type of feature due to the growing popularity of WordPress. Web host providers that do not offer this feature but are still able to run WordPress will require manual installation that will take a couple of minutes to complete. The process is not at all difficult and complete step by step directions can be found on the WordPress.org site.

The great thing about easy install in WordPress is that everything is done for you. No technical knowledge is needed. Simply enter a username and password to use for your WordPress account, click a few buttons and you’re all done. Choose a theme to use, upload via FTP to your account and you have a fully designed blog in a matter of minutes. You can also add plugins to optimize your site. If you are able to install with just one click then upgrading is easier. Since WordPress…

Warning! There’s a Twitter phish-fest going on at the moment. Hopefully you’ll read this before you become an ill-fated Twit…!

If you receive a DM that looks something like this:

hi. this you on here? http://blogger.djh****.com

Do not use the link!

It will redirect you to a copycat Twitter log-in page, and then forward you to a fake fail whale — and then later, when you least expect it, your account will have its avatar replaced with a naked girl that seems to be enjoying a deliciously unsymbolic and in-your-face penis. You will then, unwittingly, tell your friends all about fantastic dating websites that you’ve had a lot of success with recently. I think you’ll all agree that’s a fate even worse than a celebrity not responding to your well-thought-out and poignant tweet.

Did you know that ‘lyrics’ is the most searched term on Google in the last five years? Lyrics! Of all things! Not porn, not news, not even games — but lyrics. And Google, de facto masters of search, know that there’s more to search than merely quality or quantity or veracity — it’s about getting the results, when you want them — i.e. right now. They call it ‘time to result’: How long does it take to find what you’re looking for? If you search for ‘Journey’, there’s a fairly good chance that you’re looking for a Journey video or lyrics, and not a journey-planning site — and that’s what their latest search feature brings you.

You don’t even need to know the song title — if Google can match your lyric fragment against a song, it’ll pop up at the top of your search results. Neat.

Google might’ve been developing this one for some time, but instead of implementing their own library of music and needlessly repeating a vast wealth of data already out there on the Internet, Google have partnered with Pandora,…

There’s a lot to love about the Pandora streaming music service. If you put together just the right combination of musical ingredients, you’ve got the modern-day equivalent of the perfect mixtape. Sending your brilliant Pandora station to a friend or 2 (or 200!) just got easier, with the addition of Facebook and Twitter sharing.

Until now, the only option for sharing your streaming radio stations was email. That feature is still around, including personalized “Station Gifting,” which is a bit like a Pandora e-card. Twitter and Facebook sharing work with single songs or whole stations, and they place a link (along with any comments you want to add) into your public feed. Unfortunately, you still can’t use these features to share with an individual friend via direct message, so you’ll have to stick to email sharing for that.

Ask just about any technician or hardcore PC user, and they’ll tell you that the unwanted bloat shipped with many new PCs is a major annoyance.

I’m blown away by just how slow it is to boot some of the new Windows 7 systems my store has received. HP, Toshiba, Acer, MSI – they’re all guilty of excessive bloat. Not a single one of these pre-packaged systems boots as fast or is as responsive as those I’ve built in-house with Windows 7.

That’s not really a great way to show off your new OS. After all, customers are expecting to get their new machines home and see performance from the get-go. While Microsoft can’t control what makes it out the door at other retail stores, they’re putting PCs they sell at their own store on an application diet.

According to Electronista, all systems sold at Microsoft’s newly-launched retail stores will have their bloatware demons exorcised.

Yes, yes, I hear you, Linux fans. No, I don’t mean they’re uninstalling Windows from said systems.

Are you paying attention, OEMs? Even the company providing you with the primary OS on your hardware…

As if we weren’t already excited enough about the next version of Google’s Android mobile OS, Google has now announced that Android 2.0 devices will offer GPS navigation with 3D views and turn-by-turn directions. Google Maps Navigation looks great, and it’s a smack in the face to Apple, who seem to been distancing themselves from Google after buying their own mapping company. The iPhone is cool, but it’s hard to beat Google Maps at its own game.

It’s especially hard when Google’s offering practically everything you get from a pricey GPS navigation unit, right in your Android phone. 3D maps, live traffic updates, and voice directions are all included, along with Google’s Street View and Satellite view. When it comes out next week, the Verizon Droid will be the first phone to support the new navigation features. For right now, it’ll only work in the United States, but other countries with Google Maps should get it eventually.

A lot of these fake password-reset emails have been going out lately, and the attachments they contain can take over your computer and add it to the Bredolab botnet, according to ZDnet.

Your first clue that these emails are sketchy is that they contain a zipped .exe file, which is a horribly insecure and inefficient way to send an account password. Although the mail looks like it comes from support@facebook.com, the address is just spoofed to fool you. The botnet behind this attack, Bredolab, is reportedly involved in some large-scale spamming and identity theft activities, so don’t risk letting your computer become part of it.

Thanks in no small part to an errant Gizmodo post this morning, the blogosphere is once again atwitter with musings of a “leaked” Chrome OS build that we can all download and enjoy.

Share

Wrong, wrong, wrong. First and foremost, the “build” they’re talking about is a fan-built Linux distro with Chrome bolted on created using SUSE Studio. Second, no official Google project is going to be hosted as a subdomain on Google Sites. No way. They’ve already got a domain registered for ChromeOS.

Third, it’s not really that close to what Chrome OS is going to be.

Don’t count on any desktop apps – such as OpenOffice and Gimp – to be included. The aim as I understand it from sources at Google is to provide a portable computing experience that relies very heavily upon access to the cloud.

Google’s vision is for you to boot, sign in to the OS using their single sign-on cookie which preps your browser to access all your Google goodies (GMail, Docs, Picasa Web, etc.), and get down to business with the Chrome browser. Sign out of…

A lot of techy types weren’t too excited when Microsoft changed the Windows 7 ISO. Beta and RC versions lumped all the versions on one DVD.

Heck, this was one big thing I thought Microsoft did right with Windows Vista. I had one DVD and I could load any of the 39 different versions using the same disc. Windows 7 ISOs and DVDs? Not so much. They’re single-version.

Frustrated techs are never content to sit back and deal with annoyances – like the developer behind Windows 7 ISO Edition Switcher. Download the free, portable app and you can easily convert any Windows 7 ISO to the version you need. Sure, it’s pretty easy to do this by editing a text file but Switcher is about as painless as the process can get.

Pick the patch file you need from the ones included in the zip, pick your ISO, and presto! Patched ISO, ready to burn.

Big thanks to VT4000 for submitting this via our comments!!

1 in 5 UK gamers prefer to download their games

Findings in a recent report presented at the London Gaming Conference last night show that 7% of console – and 14% of PC-gamers prefer to download their games in digital, no-box-or-paper-instruction-booklet format.

This isn’t as big news as it seems though, as many PC owners also own consoles, and vice-versa — and I bet there’s some cross-over in the demographics.

But, with the recent take-off of digital-only download services like Direct2Drive, Valve’s Steam, and Microsoft’s LIVE Marketplace, it’s no surprise that gamers have been enjoying the lower prices and quicker delivery times inherent to such services. As game developers continue to jump on-board with these services and reap the higher profit margins, we can expect the trend to continue.

As always though, when there’s a shift in sales, someone has to lose out — even if it’s not the customer.

In this case it’s the real-world shops like EB Games and Game. They’ve often relied on value-added deals to turn a decent profit — buy two games, get a third free, that kind of thing — and with more and more people staying home (really, the number of reasons to leave your home…
